On Tuesday, Donald Trump’s chief counselor Kellyanne Conway went on her favorite show, Fox and Friends, in order to tout the president’s agenda for 2018. And although every part of that sentence is confusing and a little terrifying, it was what came out of her mouth that really threw us for a loop.
First, Kellyanne had the audacity to claim that Donald Trump worked hard in the month of December, which is outright hilarious. It’s as if she missed that entire episode of The Trump Show where the White House hired the Palm Beach Sheriff’s Office to block camera access to his golf course so we wouldn’t see just how lazy he was being, even after telling the country he was “getting back to work.”
Then, as if to rub salt in the wound, Conway told the hosts that Trump intends to do more of the same this year, saying “that will now drift into 2018.” She listed a litany of things Republicans have done (largely without input or help from Trump of any kind), all of which the American public HATES: Tax cuts that she claims were for the middle class, but actually went mostly to the super wealthy; the opening of the Arctic National Wildlife Refuge to oil drilling; and last but not least repealing the individual mandate in the Affordable Care Act — which may look like it’s less popular than other parts of Obamacare, but in actuality is the engine that drives the whole system.
The idea that this White House thinks they did a good job in 2017 flies in the face of every approval rating poll so far, not to mention common sense.
But perhaps the scariest part of Kellyanne Conway’s appearance on the show was her apparent homage to Effie Trinket from the Hunger Games. If we start seeing her show up like that to even more press appearances, we should probably start worrying.
