Sen. Ted Cruz (R-TX), the recipient of $10,150 in donations from the National Rifle Association, and a self-described Christian is resistant to any common sense gun regulations following the most recent school shooting, this time taking 17 lives, including children. After blasting Hollywood stars who have armed bodyguards, Cruz went on to praise the Second Amendment during an interview with TMZ.
The TMZ interviewer said that Hollywood is “against the Second Amendment — most of the folks,” proving once again that this is why we can’t have a reasonable discussion about our gun-saturated country. Being for reasonable gun control measures does not mean you’re against the Second Amendment.
So, Cruz gunsplained what the Second Amendment is really about: single mothers living near crack houses.
“The Second Amendment is about, it’s about a single mom living in a tough neighborhood with a crack house down the street being able to defend herself and defend her kids,” Cruz declared as he blew that dog whistle as loudly as possible.
Cruz went on to note the mass shooting at a church in Sutherland Springs, Texas, last year, to give that as an example as to why we do not need gun regulations.
“It was the Second Amendment that saved a lot of lives that day,” he said of the shooting which took 26 lives and injured 20 people.
The armed man who intervened in Sutherland Springs is a former firearms instructor and not just some dude who target shoots every few months to get comfortable handling a gun. Cruz just wants to desensitize the country to gun violence while he stuffs NRA dollars into his bank account. And the man who intervened was not protecting his home from a crack house down the street. After that mass shooting, Republicans offered their ‘thoughts and prayers’ even though worshippers were literally praying at the time of the massacre.
