Education Secretary Betsy DeVos struggled to answer basic questions during an interview on 60 Minutes Sunday night. Everyone was suddenly dumber after watching it. Host Leslie Stahl asked easy questions, but Trump’s Education Secretary failed to answer questions about education. The interview was a real head-scratcher and White House officials were not amused with her performance, according to CNN.
Officials in the West Wing told CNN that things went “from bad to worse” as DeVos continued her interviews on Monday.
“She gave a performance that has not received stellar reviews. I’ll try to be polite here,” host John Berman told Rep. Ted Lieu (D-CA), according to Raw Story. “We’re just getting some information from our White House team that the White House — White House officials watched in dismay as Betsy DeVos struggled to answer basic questions about the nation’s schools.”
Her interviews have been widely panned and she even admitted to not visiting schools that are underperforming.
“I hesitate to talk about all schools in general because schools are made up of individual students attending them,” DeVos told Stahl.
She said she has “not intentionally” visited a low-performing school — and when Stahl suggested she should, DeVos said, “Maybe I should, yes.”
“Have the public schools in Michigan gotten better?” Stahl asked.
“I don’t know,” DeVos said. “I can’t say overall they have all gotten better.”
“The whole state is not doing well,” Stahl said.
DeVos thinks that arming teachers “should be an option” even though she couldn’t “ever imagine” her first-grade teacher having had a gun.
It was so bad that even the White House gave her an F. She paid for that position in the Trump administration so no one should be surprised.
Rep. Ted Lieu mocked DeVos on Twitter.
Betsy DeVos wasn’t asked what is the airspeed velocity of an unladen swallow. She was asked basic questions about education and had trouble answering them.
Also, saying that we shouldn’t invest in school buildings is stupid. Dilapidated & unsafe buildings affect learning. https://t.co/4FQVHYVn73
