Conservative “Christian” con man Pat Robertson is off his meds again.
On Monday evening as 22,000 Americans were enjoying a concert, gunshots rang out and sent everyone fleeing for their lives. In the end, 59 people were shot dead and over 500 others were wounded.
The incident has revived the debate on gun control, and rightfully so. Stricter gun laws could have helped to prevent the shooter from getting his assault weapons.
But rather than blame a lack of gun control or a lack of mental health services for the tragedy, Robertson blamed kneeling during the national anthem and a lack of respect for Trump along with a lack of biblical authority as the causes.
“Why is it happening?” Robertson asked. “The fact that we have disrespect for authority; there is profound disrespect for our president, all across this nation they say terrible things about him. It’s in the news, it’s in other places. There is disrespect now for our national anthem, disrespect for our veterans, disrespect for the institutions of our government, disrespect for the court system. All the way up and down the line, disrespect.”
That’s a whole lot of bullshit right there.
Robertson literally believes that if all Americans just gave their unearned respect to a petty tyrant that the mass shooting would have magically never happened. And his attempt to blame NFL players who protest racial injustice during the national anthem appears to be an effort to shift blame for the old white guy who pulled the trigger onto black people.
And then Robertson got more frightening by calling for “biblical authority” in this nation and claimed such authority would prevent mass shootings.
Until there is biblical authority, there has to be some controlling authority in our society and there is none. And when there is no vision of God, the people run amok … and we have taken from the American people the vision of God, the whole idea of reward and punishment, an ultimate judge of all our actions, we’ve taken that away. When there is no vision of God, the people run amok.”
In other words, Robertson is using this mass shooting to justify religious tyranny where the Bible becomes the law of the land.

The last thing this country needs is to be policed by fundamentalist “Christians” like Robertson.
Robertson seriously just used the deaths of more than fifty Americans to push his effort to turn America into a theocracy, which would end democracy and usher in the kind of government that is found in places like Iran. The real culprit here is the shooter and America’s weak gun control laws, which could get even worse if the NRA has its way. House Republicans are considering relaxing regulations on selling silencers. If the Las Vegas gunman had used a silencer, he would have killed far more people because the only reason why people ran for their lives was that they were able to hear the shots.
Republicans and the NRA want mass shooters to be able to kill more people. And people like Pat Robertson and Donald Trump want to use the tragedy to gain more power. We may have to wait another three years to dump Trump, but Disney has the power to drop Pat Robertson’s poisonous show from the airwaves right now since the Walt Disney Company currently owns and operates the Freeform channel that airs the 700 Club.
It’s time for Disney to take down Pat Robertson. Views like his have no place in our society. You can contact the Walt Disney Company by clicking here.
