Donald Trump fired off a series of tweets early this morning to start a trade war and that resulted in stocks plummeting. It’s OK, though, because Trump was just coming “unglued” and was furious at the time so everything is fine (cough cough).
As global markets reeled at Trump’s surprise decision to impose strict tariffs on steel and aluminum imports, the former reality show star just had to tweet, “Trade wars are good, and easy to win,” thus making matters even worse. Remember when House Speaker Paul Ryan touted a $1.50 raise for a secretary? Well, Trump’s policy would increase the prices of cars, canned foods, and many other items — wiping out the effect of that raise.
Trump lashed out without any internal review by government lawyers or his own staff, according to NBC.
Two officials explained to NBC that Trump’s decision to launch a potential trade war was because he was angry at recent issues, such as Hope Hicks’ testimony to lawmakers investigating Russia’s interference in the 2016 election, embattled attorney general Jeff Sessions, and the treatment of his son-in-law by his chief of staff John Kelly.
Trump became “unglued” by Wednesday evening, according to one official.
Two officials said that Trump was angry and gunning for a fight — so he chose a trade war.
A meeting was held with steel and aluminum executives headed by Commerce Secretary Wilbur Ross, and without having background checks conducted on the executives for clearance, and without approved remarks for Trump to give at the planned meeting, and there were no approved remarks for the so-called president to give at the meeting.
It was just an hour later that reporters were invited to the Cabinet room. Without warning, just like that, Trump announced on the spot that he was imposing new strict tariffs on imports, according to NBC.
This last line in the report is a doozy:
By Thursday afternoon, the U.S. stock market had fallen and Trump, surrounded by his senior advisers in the Oval Office, was said to be furious.”
So, Trump is angry because his own White House is in chaos, so he decided to start a trade war and crash the stock market, a thing he did which also made him furious. One thing is for sure, Trump will somehow blame this hot mess on Obama.
